The original vineyards in Tollo were first established by Rocco Radica in the 1950's, handed over to his son Antonio, who has now seen his own sons Rocco Jr & Giacomo establish their own winery as recently as 2009. Tollo is a small village on a small round-shaped hill of 150 meters altitude from sea level. The area is particularly suited for cultivation of wine grapes. Favourable climatic conditions and clay soil makes the local wines very unique, meriting their own DOC - Tullum.
In the world Pinot Grigio is now a very common grape variety but not in Abruzzo. Antonio decided to cultivate it and the result has been excellent thanks to the perfect combination of weather and soil. Here Radica are practically the only cultivators and producers of Pinot Grigio and what a white it is - a rich, medium bodied wine with citrus fruits and an amazing creaminess (though not from oak), and a long crisp finish. This is one wine that made us all sit up and say wow! Despite already having 2 Pinot Grigio's we just couldn't let this one slip away.
Food Match: fish dishes, Asian, roast chicken.
