The Puelles family have been making wine in Abalos (La Rioja) for as long as anyone can remember, (1844 actually). Moderate yields using ecologically friendly methods, (no chemical fertilisers or herbicides here), coupled with a respect for the environment, gives wines true to their terroir and history. It's this special combination of soil, microclimate, varieties and centuries of know how that make their wines so unique.
Made from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Otras (huh?), hand picked and aged for a minimum of 5 years in oak and bottle before being released for sale. It's not often you get the chance to buy a 13 year old wine for this kind of money. This is old style Rioja at its very best - with developed aromas and flavours of tea and dried fruits, smooth at first with a nice tannic kick on the finish. Very good length too.
A perfect match with roast beef, chicken or turkey.
