Château d'Or et de Gueules was born in 1998. The name comes from the family crest of Diane de Puymorin, with its colours reflecting the personality of the wines she produces - gold ('Or' in French) to signify the depth and fullness of the southern sun and warmth, red ('Gueules' in old French) for the character, power and roundness. The wines of Château d'Or et de Gueules 'have their own personality. Whether red, white or rosé, they are stamped with personality - full and subtle. The wines have real structure which expresses itself with elegance and finesse. The property lies on the southern side of the Costières de Nîmes, between St Gilles and Generac, close to the Camargue. The vineyards face south and south-east on a terroir of galets roulés (the famous rounded pebbles also found in areas such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape).
Trassegum is made from Syrah 50%, Old Carignan 25%, Old Mourvèdre 25%, the grapes are harvested by hand and spend one year in french barrels and two years in tank in order to soften the tannins. Its name means 'love potion' in Provencal. Deep coloured, the hue is like ink, with a complex nose of dark fruits, vanilla and coffee. Spicy and concentrated in the mouth with a very good length. The palate is really ample, concentrated and the taste lingers for several minutes. Also commended at the Decanter Awards, with our own Mary Dowey commenting - "Diane de Puymorin's wines are stylish, complex and assertive - much like herself".
