Famous for Rose d'Anjou which accounts for about half of production in the region, it is usually forgotten that it also produces excellent whites and even a little red. The domaine is situated near the town of Angers, on the banks of the River Aubance. In 1989 grower Daniel Macault managed to expand his vineyard to almost 60 ha, and at the same time modernised the wine making facilities on site.

Made from 100% Chenin Blanc it can be a difficult grape to love, as it comes in many styles, from bone dry to dessert style. When dry it can be produce very tart and acidic wines unless picked late, and ideally grown on south facing slopes, to avail of  more sunshine hours that will soften the natural acidity of the grape. Thankfully our example comes from premium sites in this region and indeed is a bronze medal winner in the 2008 Concours des Vins du Val de Loire.

The wine has a steely, mineral nose with some apple aromas. On the palate it has baked apples, ripe fruit  and honeyed pears, despite being bone dry. It finishes with beautifully balanced acidity and long finish.  Food is a must for this wine!
