Situated between the Dordogne and the Garonne rivers, Chateau de Lugagnac has a history going back to the Hundred Years War. Although partially rebuilt in the 15th and again in the 17th century, it has retained its authenticity and its elegance. The entire estate covers 180 ha of wines, meadow and woodland. It is about 1 km from the bastide town of Pellegrue.
The domain of Lugagnac has been devoted to the wines for centuries and neglected for decades, but it was entirely replanted with classic grape varieties in 1969. The vineyard has been, for the last 14 years, under a complete density and diversity re-structurisation.
The personality of Lugagnac wines is mainly due to the soil diversity and to a vinification done the traditional way in a totally temperature controlled cellar.
The natural balance of the wines allows them to avoid any chemical treatments, while the process of fining is also done with entirely natural agents.
Exclusively made of free running wine before pressing, bottled immediately after a two-year barrel ageing period, Château de Lugagnac is a very pure, colourful, long lasting wine. Made from 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is fresh, rounded and medium bodied with ripe cassis and blackberry flavours on the palate. The current 2006 vintage we sell was a Gold Medal winner at the Vins d'Aquitaine 2008.
